A Leaf in the Wind
Leaf let out a deep sigh as she gazed up at the stars. They twinkled in awe as she could only lye on the wide plain of grass staring up at them. Her hand moved up and pretended to catch one in her hand. She giggled to herself as she let her imaginary star go, before rolling onto her side and feeling the softness of her sleeping bag. A frown began to grow across her face as she stared at her hat that was lying by her side. “Oh I do wish Red was her to enjoy this too...”.
He was never around. To believe that she grew up with him and Blue as the best of friends and now...well, now they hardly knew each other. Blue spent his days cramped up in that gym of his. Moaning about Red. With the dramatic increase of trainers flocking to Kanto from forgin regions, the Gym Leaders had to Up-Their-Game in order to still keep Trainers from becoming a 'Pokemon Champion' some sort of challenge.
As for Red. He was different. Different to all the rest. Thousand of Millions of Trainers but for some-reason he stuck out in Leafs mind. She didn't want to get better than him...she wanted to be the same. Live as an equal, in terms of skill and...maybe some other things... Leaf blushed at the thought before clamping her head in rage. "WHY!?" she uncontrollably let out. "Why can't I stop thinking about him!?". Images of Red flashed through her mind. His dazzling looks, slick black hair and that cap of his that let of it's own glow. No, she must stop thinking about him. He broke her heart.
She'd told herself many times that she MUST forget him. He made a promise. He promised her and Blue. That he'd stay with them forever. They'd stay as a team, and accomplish goals together! So why did he do this? Why did he disappear? After he became champion he was quickly defeated. Well, not exactly. He'd worked so hard to get his position, only to leave it.
Two years prior (to what you just read)...
The leaves began their dance. Slowly shifting back and forth. Then they rose. Their stems proudly pointing into the sky, the tip lifting them upright. They started to shift around before exploding into a frenzy of flying around. Bouncing off each other. They brought a tiny little grin to Red's face. "Ooooh? What's this? The great Pokemon Champion, Red, smiling!? no, impossible!?" Joked Blue sarcastically as he leaned forward, gazing up into Red's eyes. Red replied by pulling his cap thurther over his face, indicating that Blue should probably shut up, in a joking way. Leaf simply smiled as she walked over to the duo, "Having fun are we?". She held three
Ice-Creams in her hands as she gave one to both the boys. Blue started to rapidly lick the Ice-Cream. Covering his face in it much to Leaf's laughter. Then, without the slightest bit of dignity, Blue pulled away from his treat to look at Red. "So, Mr. Bigshot-Champion, whatcha gonna do now, huh?" he said with his nose and mouth caked in the thick whippy substance. Red looked towards the sun before speaking for the first time that day "Dunno, you?". "Wow, a WHOLE two words" Blue said in response, the lower part of his face now engulfed in Ice-Cream. "Hey, I know" said Leaf as the others turned to look at her. "Let's visit back home!" she said enthusiastically as she pointed over the hills in the direction of the sunny site that is Pallet Town. A grin spread across Blue's face as he wiped his now finished desert from his mouth and he looked a Red who simply nodded, smiling also.
Hours of climbing and Blue having to constantly pee out the litre of pop he'd drank before-hand later, the group of three finally arrived back at Pallet Town. As they walked through the narrow trees the sun hit their faces. Four houses stood before them with a large lake of water spread behind. "We're home!" they all shouted simultaneously. As several friendly faces passed by smiling at them before a sudden character appeared. A girl, well, more of a young woman. Her Swiss milk chocolate hair waving in the wind. Her hands on her hips with a grumpy look on her face. As she towered above Blue. "Well, well, well" she said "Look who's back, if it isn't Mr.Never-Call-Home-And-Leave-His-Sister-Worrying-All-The-Time".
She stood on her tip-toes thurthering her height over Blue. "Now, now Daisy let's not embarrass me in front of my friends...heh, heh" he replied. "Ooooh, thats right!" suddenly exclaimed Leaf "It is?" replied Red, barley managing to push the words out his mouth. "You must be Daisy! Blue's big-sis, right?" Daisy smiled as Blue could only sigh and attempt to escape the situation by suggesting they the group all go home to their respective houses.
Leaf's mother laughed. "Oh, is that really?" she said greatly interested in the various stories Leaf was telling. "Yeah, they're so hopeless at times" Leaf laughed jokingly about 'Red the Silent Knight' and 'Blue the Giant-Ego'd Follower'. "Hey, she said, I'm gonna go see the others" said Leaf standing up "Just promise you'll be back for dinner, hun" said Leaf's mother laying back. "Yeah, don't worry" smiled Leaf as she left the house. She looked up, and let out a deep sigh as she gazed up at the stars. They twinkled in awe as she could only stand on the wide plain of grass staring up at them. She traced them down until she was looking at Red' house.
Leaf began to walk towards Red’s house, seeing images flash before her of all the adventures that she and Red had had as kids there. Funny how Blue wasn't among those memories. What was this feeling? Was this what people called...Love? Suddenly, a thousand leaves flustered into her face, startling her as she swished them aside in surprise. Only to reveal that she was now standing in front of Red's house. All the lights were shut off. A dark feeling fell over her. She didn't like it.
She knocked on the door. No sound. Was Red out? She'd seen him walk into his house. He must be home. She knocked again, but harder. This time the door opened a little. Not locked, or closed properly of that matter. The door creaked open as she gave it a slight nudge. She walked into the dark room. "H-hello?" she said as she quickly dashed her eyes around. They fell upon a table. There was a note, the note that did everything. That mixed up Leaf's feeling. Leaving her as hopeless as a Leaf floating in the wind.
Dear Leaf,
I wish I could talk to you. Just one last time, however I can't put it into words. I can't put anything into words. Every time I try to say something above simple, a complicated mess forms in my head. The complication begins to represent my feeling for you. This renders me unable to form proper sentences. I need to figure things out. I'm so sorry. I've left my Position of Pokemon League Champion. I don't deserve that title. I wasn't here to help her, please don't tell Blue the truth. And please, I beg of you, don't follow me. I need to collect my thoughts, I know that someday, someone will come. The someone will show me a "True Battle" that will clear me feelings. Then, I'll return. My dearest Leaf, may our destiny cross paths again.
Love,
The Dye of Blood, Red.
A tear trickled down Leaf’s cheek as it fell off and hit the floor making a deep splash.
